Single O Collab

Sydney based Single O reached out to me to design a coffee bag for their 20th birthday celebrations. The owner Emma really liked one of my Touching Doodles about a magic mushroom and how it made her think about how trippy their journey has been over the last 20 years.

I’ve been going to Single O’s cafe in Surry Hills Sydney for close to 10 years so it was quite serendipitous to be involved in such a big milestone for them. I did my best to sneak in some Easter eggs from their story over the last 20 years including a chopped finger and a repurposed iron.

My bag design started circulating around Australia, and even Japan, in April 2023.

Process

The design started with some quick thumbnail sketches, followed by a detailed pencil outline, before finishing off the design digitally using an iPad and Procreate. I find if I jump straight to working in digital my lines and forms end up feeling more stiff and awkward than if I start with a pencil and paper.

Merch

My mushroom character and a version or two of Single O’s logo I remixed were turned into a range of celebratory merch including a tee, a hat and even some socks. It was a lot of fun to see how the Single O team turned these bit and pieces into finished branded products.

Cafe Sightings

One of the best things to come out of this collaboration has been seeing my art pop up in cafes across Australia and Japan. Wild.
